The Site comprises two steep narrow valleys along its northern and southern borders, with a mild plateau running down the middle with dramatic views onto the Libyan Sea.

Access: It is approximately 54 km from Rethymno, the Prefecture capital and main port. The closest airport is at Heraklion at a distance of c. 104 km, whilst Chania Airport falls within a distance of c. 124 km from the Site.
